      Many CEOs are familiar with the phrase: “We need a data platform.” Behind it often lies a familiar pattern: a major program, numerous workshops, new tools — and in the end, Excel exports, manual reports, and debates over which number is actually correct still remain. At the same time, everyone is talking about GPT-5, o3, and “AI in management,” but as soon as things become concrete, the answer is: “Our data isn’t good enough for that.”

      As a result, companies put AI on hold: first the data foundation needs to be “clean,” then they can talk about intelligent assistants, decision support, and automation. The problem is that this moment rarely arrives. Meanwhile, CRM, ERP, ticketing systems, shops, production, and HR already contain data that could enable better decisions today — if it were made usable in a targeted way.

For an AI sales assistant, this could be an access point that returns the most important information for a requested customer number: master data, history, current opportunities, open tickets, and profitability metrics. For a management decision brief, it could be an access point that pulls central KPIs from Finance, Sales, and Operations.

      The key is that these data access points are clearly defined once — both from a business and technical perspective. From the business side, it must be clear which fields are delivered, what they mean, and how current they are.
